Synopsis

Everyone knows that The Grinch is notoriously grumpy, but how and why did he get that way? This animated version of the Dr. Seuss classic seeks to answer that question, returning to his childhood and the sense of abandonment he felt at having to watch other children in his community celebrating their holidays with their loved ones. Shutting himself away in a cave, he decides one day that he can no longer block Christmas out: he needs to steal it instead! Meanwhile, Cindy-Lou, a young-girl in the nearby village of Whoville is determined to meet Santa Claus, teaming up with a group of friends to track him down. But what dastardly plans does The Grinch have in store? This is a bright, colourful take on the well-known story, combining tremendous fun with gentle messages around family, kindness, and community.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
