To celebrate the recent cinema release of Universal's Wicked: For Good, we launched a brand-new learning resource. Wicked Friendships is a free learning sequence for primary learners aged 6-11, making links to PSHE, citizenship, RSE, and complementing Ofcom's media literacy aims.
As part of the resource we ran a 'Welcome to Oz' competition, which asked young people to design a travel poster for one of the wonderful settings in the Land of Oz, complete with a creative slogan/motto, and showing everything that place has to offer, from the people and animals that live there, to the scenery and buildings.
Congratulations to Marjan, aged 11, from Nower Hill High School in London, whose winning entry showcases the Emerald City itself, as seen in the classic view from the Yellow Brick Road. The vibrant green city is complemented by a dazzling rainbow, demonstrating the magic inherent in the Land of Oz.
Marjan has won a Wicked LEGO ® Welcome to Emerald City set and a Wicked: For Good merchandise bundle. Check out their winning entry below!
We'd also like to give a special mention to two runners-up: Mya, aged 11, also from Nower Hill High School in London, and Rupert, aged 5, from Chaddlewood Primary School in Plymouth. Both have won Wicked LEGO® sets and film merchandise bundles.
Our Wicked Friendships resource is a two-lesson learning sequence designed for learners aged 6-11, making links to PSHE, citizenship, RSE, and complementing Ofcom's media literacy aims.
The resource explores the transformative power of friendship, and offers a space for self-reflection. The resource allows learners to both celebrate the joys of friendship, and develop confidence in navigating its challenges with kindness.
Drawing on the film's trailer and the evolving bond between Glinda and Elphaba, pupils will consider conflict, communication, and compromise. They'll come to understand how friendships can change us for the better, and how identities can be shaped through connections with others.
