Embrace a fresh and fierce new Hamlet

To mark the release of Hamlet, in cinemas February 6, we’ve collaborated with Universal Pictures to present a free resource exploring the creativity and craft of filmmaking, screenwriting, and adaptation.

Hamlet: Shakespeare for All is an inclusive resource for use with students aged 15+. Via the film’s casting and contemporary British South Asian context, the lesson shines a light on interpretation and cultural representation. Activities support analysis and inference skills, and are aligned to curriculum objectives from English Literature, Film Studies, and Careers, and complement the aims of UK-wide campaign the National Year of Reading 2026.

An iconic tragic hero reawakened for new audiences

Academy Award-winner Riz Ahmed delivers a career-defining performance in this intimate and immediate reimagining of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Reborn as a gripping London thriller, this bold adaptation feels more urgent than ever. Mike Leslie's propulsive script and Aneil Karia's immersive, first-person direction pull us inside Hamlet's unravelling mind.

Using the film's trailer and an exclusive clip, students will develop their comparative analysis skills, practice the close study of British film, and gain insight into screen careers. Hamlet: Shakespeare for All engages with the film's screenplay and Shakespeare's text itself, supporting media literacy across a range of text types.

At Into Film we're proud to be supporting the National Year of Reading. We encourage everyone to Go All In on reading and make it a regular part of your daily lives. Research by the National Literacy Trust found that 2 in 5 young people are more likely to read something if they've already seen a film or TV adaptation. Hamlet: Shakespeare for All demonstrates how the written word and the world of film are inextricably linked, unlocking fresh motivation for reading.
