Save the Shoot: Careers Challenge is a free, classroom-ready careers resource, designed to support secondary students as they explore future career pathways.

Using film production as a practical and engaging context, the resource helps students aged 13-16 understand how skills are applied in real workplaces. Rather than being tied to a specific event or date, Save the Shoot is designed to be saved and used at a time that suits your school - whether that's a drop-down day, enrichment week or during a quieter point in the year.

Using film production to build transferable skills

Through a series of structured challenges based around the fictional film Granny's Got a Jetpack, students step into different production roles and tackle realistic problems - from planning and scheduling to design, marketing and decision-making.

While the setting is film production, the focus is on essential employability skills that apply across all careers:

  • Teamwork
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication
  • Creativity

This makes the resource suitable for whole classes and year groups, regardless of subject interests or future ambitions. It works equally well in English, media, art, business, PSHE, careers and wider enrichment contexts.

Designed to be easy to deliver, Save the Shoot includes ready-to-use lesson plans, teacher slides, activity sheets and supporting video content.

Schools can deliver all sessions as a full careers day, or select individual elements to use in lessons or tutor time. The structure supports meaningful careers conversations while keeping preparation manageable.
