Introduce your learners to the world of work with Save the Shoot, a classroom-ready careers challenge focused on the essential skills needed for the workplace, with activities linked to the screen industries.
With a spotlight on the essential skills applicable to all industry sectors, this challenge can be delivered to any group size, from a full year group to a small tutor group, whatever their preferred subjects or career aspirations. Save the Shoot will place your learners in the role of a production assistant working to resolve problems on a film set and get filming back on track.
Each lesson, which takes place in a different film department, has a bespoke video introduction which outlines a problem that needs solving. Through short, practical challenges, students explore how a real film set works – from planning and design to marketing and on-set decision-making.
Learners will work in teams and use a range of skills to come up with solutions to the issues identified: listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, adapting, planning, leadership and teamwork skills, as identified by the Skills Builder Universal Framework.
With flexibility in delivery, clear lesson plans and everything included, you can run this as an off-timetable day, or for in-class delivery.
The career resource pack includes everything you need to run this challenge:
This resource will support you to meet careers benchmarks and standards, UK-wide. Help your students to develop skills that support future pathways, within and beyond the screen industries.
Please note: this resource is based on a fictional film set and some scenarios have been dramatised for comic effect.
We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
