This resource introduces learners to some of the ideas surrounding the topic of AI. Engaging with AI-generated content can be really enjoyable and entertaining. However, as with all media, it is important that we examine what we are engaging with and be especially curious about who made it, so that we can check for bias and authenticity. Generative AI has the power to influence our understanding of the world around us, so it is important that young people are equipped to examine what they are engaging with.

Please note: this resource has been written by our Learning Team who are all experienced teachers. AI has been used to generate images used in a trailer and posters but it has not been used to write the resource.

OFCOM outcomes, Government guidance and the Curriculum Review (Nov 2025) highlight the need for greater emphasis on media literacy and discussions about AI in the classroom. In this analysis-based lesson, learners will explore some talking points surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) in connection with the screen industries. By examining an AI-generated marketing campaign for a film that will never be released, learners will discuss how easy or difficult it is to spot AI-generated content.

Learners will begin the lesson by viewing a trailer for a film called Space Force. Without being told that it has been created using AI, the class will be encouraged to think about the narrative and characters of the film by answering a series of questions. However, as they watch the trailer, they may notice that it is a little unusual. Once they discover that the trailer is completely AI-generated, the learners will think about what AI actually is and come up with ideas about how to spot it.

The class will then consider other ways in which films are promoted to audiences and will think about whether these promotional items can also be generated using AI. By examining a series of posters for Space Force, they will evaluate how effective these posters are and whether the prompts used to produce them were sufficiently detailed.

As they analyse different parts of the marketing campaign for Space Force, including reviews and social media posts, learners will think about how difficult it can be to recognise media that has been produced using generative AI and why this skill can be important.

We know that by the time you see this resource AI technology will have gotten even better, that is why towards the end of the lesson, learners will develop a checklist to help them examine content for authenticity and consider how AI is evolving.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
