Released in cinemas this week are two very different yet thought-provoking films - political satire Jojo Rabbit and French language drama Amanda.
Directed by Taika Waititi, the filmmaker behind Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Jojo Rabbit re-imagines the end of World War Two in Nazi Germany. This is the comedic story of a ten year old boy whose imaginary friend happens to be none other than Adolf Hitler, but when he forms a friendship with a Jewish girl he starts to rethink everything he has been told. French drama Amanda, on the other hand, is a serious drama exploring alternative family units and parenting when a young man is faced with taking responsibility for his niece after his older sister is killed in a terrorist attack.
Greta Gerwig follows up her debut film (Lady Bird) with a much-anticipated adaptation of Little Women, a novel about the coming of age of three sisters in the aftermath of the American Civil War. Elsewhere, the final instalment in the nine-part space opera finally arrives in the form of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
For younger audiences and families, there's an adaptation of the popular cultural phenomenon Cats - a fantastical, somewhat barmy, take on Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End show of all-singing, all-dancing felines. There's also an animated comedy Spies in Disguise, which sees a flashy private detective unexpectedly turned into a pigeon by a young scientist with his latest spy gadget!
