Synopsis
David is in his early twenties and living in Paris, working odd jobs for a scrupulous landlord whilst spending time with his older sister Sandrine and her seven-year-old daughter Amanda, the only close family he has. Things seem to be going well after he meets beautiful tenant Léna but tragedy strikes when Sandrine is killed in a terrorist attack. Consumed by grief, David must nevertheless quickly adapt to his new role as Amanda’s guardian and begin making vital decisions about her future – and whether he has the money, time and ability to give her the life and emotional support she needs now her mother is gone. ‘Amanda’ is a thoughtful and layered French drama about loss and companionship that smartly and subtly asks the audience to examine their preconceptions of parenting and the family unit.
