Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
The National Year of Reading 2026 is a UK-wide campaign from the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust. The campaign, which urges everyone to Go All In on reading, aims to inspire more people to make reading a regular part of their daily lives, and we at Into Film are proud to be supporting it throughout the coming year.
As the Go All In campaign explains: "Reading expands minds, builds confidence and fuels creativity. Yet with more distractions and less time, reading for pleasure is in decline across many groups. The National Year of Reading 2026 is here to change that, by reconnecting reading with everyday culture."
The campaign aims to redress the way people think about reading, emphasising that it shouldn't be a 'chore' or something that you must set aside time for, but rather something that can be seamlessly woven into our everyday lives, to supplement and enhance our existing interests and activities.
After all, there are books on anything you can imagine. If you're a sport fanatic, then picking up the autobiography of a legendary athlete isn't a separate activity - it's simply bringing reading into an existing passion. A keen animator? Books on the history of animation could revolutionise your approach, while reading graphic novels might feel more accessible than a traditional book and can provide endless inspiration. Whatever your passion, reading can be a part of it!
And of course, the written word and the world of film are inextricably linked, with both mediums serving as a gateway to learning and culture. In fact, research by the National Literacy Trust found that, for reluctant readers, having already watched a film or TV connected to a book is the best motivator to get them reading. Their research found that 2 in 5 children and young people are more likely to read something if they have already seen the film or TV adaptation.
As well as the many literary adaptations that reach our screens each year, reading helps to develop creativity and imagination, which are key components in keeping the endless possibilities of filmmaking alive. Plus, every film and TV show starts with a script or screenplay, for which the literacy and writing skills learnt from reading are indispensable.
Throughout 2026 we'll be partnering with the National Literacy Trust across a range of activities, including our upcoming Spring Screenings in March and the Into Film Festival in November, as well as year-round through the Into Film+ streaming service and our curriculum-linked resources.
Go All In is a national movement to get everyone to rediscover the joy of reading, and we can't wait to turn the first page.
Looking for ways to help you kick-start your National Year of Reading? We've put together two brand-new Film Lists to help further inspire you and your learners to Go All In on reading in 2026.
Popular Primary Books focuses on successful adaptations of both classic children's literature and modern must-reads that are popular among primary school learners, while our Young Adult Fiction list explores a sub-genre of adaptations that often combine adventure and fantasy with personal coming-of-age themes, all based on texts specifically written to accompany young people into adulthood.
Keep an eye out for even more reading-focused activities, events and resources throughout 2026.
