Online Course - Aardman Animations: Careers

Aardman Animations: Careers is part of a series of curated highlights from our exclusive online seminar with Mark Hewis, Head of the Aardman Academy, covering careers, filmmaking projects and animation in the curriculum.

What kind of skills are needed for a career in animation? What can young people do now to get ahead of the pack? And what are some of the routes into the industry? In this recorded session, Mark answers these questions and shares examples from his own career to help inspire young people as they consider their next steps towards the screen industries.

Webinar - Pathways into the Screen Industries

Date: Tuesday 19 March 2026, 16:00-17:00

This session focuses on the different pathways young people can take to pursue careers in the screen industries, including academic routes, apprenticeships and training programmes, and direct-to-industry routes (via entry level roles). By the end of the session, you will have increased knowledge on each pathway, and be more confident in advising students based on interests, personal circumstances and aspirations.

This session is for careers professionals and educators of 11-18-year-olds.

Save the Shoot: Careers Challenge resource

Save the Shoot is a free, classroom-ready careers resource for ages 13-16. It introduces students to the realities of film production through a series of short, practical challenges based on a film that doesn't actually exist called Granny's Got a Jetpack.

The resource offers flexible, practical activities that introduce students to real roles on a film set, while building transferable skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and communication.

Story Builder: Sports Broadcasting resource

We recently partnered with TNT Sports to create this brand-new Story Builder: Sports Broadcasting resource for Key Stage 3 (or equivalent) learners aged 11-14. The resource explores narrative development through the exciting lens of sports broadcasting, while highlighting relevant industry careers. It supports careers education across the four UK nations (including Gatsby Benchmark 2, learning from career and labour market information).

Parents & Carers: Access VFX Podcast

The ACCESS:VFX podcast is back for its latest season. With a focus on transparent and honest conversations, Into Film's Careers Lead, Cerys Evans, was thrilled to join the esteemed guests to answer the question: 'Should I encourage my kids to get into VFX and animation?'.

The podcast breaks down career myths, shares real experiences, and aims to assist young people, parents, carers and educators to better understand the realities of creative careers.

National Career Guidance Show 2026

We're exhibiting at the National Careers Guidance Show in London on Thursday 26 March. Come along and say hello and find out directly how our screen careers offer can support you and your students.

Highlights from National Careers Week 2026

We delivered events and activities connecting young people and educators with industry professionals from across the screen industries.

  • We teamed up with BAFTA at their headquarters in Piccadilly, London, bringing together schools, colleges, and screen industry professionals to provide insight into how to break into the screen industries. Hosted by broadcaster, presenter and BBC Radio 1 DJ Maia Beth, the event embraced the theme ‘Own Your Future in Screen', with four panels exploring careers across film, TV, animation, games and VFX (visual effects).
  • 90 young people took part in a one-day experience through our Screen Industries Virtual Insight Day with Futures for All. They heard from industry speakers working in props and set design and an assistant director before collaborating on a concept for their own film.
  • We welcomed students from across the UK to our virtual broadcast, in partnership with Futures for All, Disney and Pixar, to hear exclusive insights from Pixar Animation Studio's Nicole Paradis Grindle, producer of Academy Award®-winning films The Incredibles, Toy Story 3 and new release Hoppers.
  • Students in the South West joined John-Luke Goodman, script supervisor for Netflix's Seven Dials and Down Cemetery Road for an exciting careers encounter.
  • Teachers and careers advisers are booked in to enjoy an exciting day of upskilling and industry insight at the iconic Warner Bros. Studio Tour with Into Film, Warner Bros. and Crew HQ on Saturday 7 March.

As one attendee learnt from our event with BAFTA: "You don't have to know exactly where you're heading to be heading in the right direction."
