Since recovering from cancer and having undergone extensive chemotherapy, 17-year-old Ivy is struggling to find her place in a world that has seemingly left her behind. Despite her brash attitude, Ivy’s optimistic parents think she simply needs a change of scenery and convince her to attend a summer camp for other young people who have gone through similar, life-altering experiences with cancer. Initially cynical about what she calls “chemo camp”, Ivy soon begins to open up and find solace, camaraderie and even true love amongst the misfits and outsiders that become her friendship group. A bittersweet comedy drama packed to the brim with young British talent, Sunny Dancer blends a blunt, realistic coming-of-age story with a tender range of teenage emotion.
