Beginning in 1859, this epic saga of expansion, conflict and survival in the American west spans several years and follows a host of explorers, survivors and settlers, each with their own internal struggles. One such story follows a group of settlers who lay out their plans to build and prosper in the town of Horizon in the San Pedro Valley (now known as Arizona) but see their dreams of a new future squashed by the native Apache tribe, who have longed claimed the ground as their own. As tensions boil over and death engulfs Horizon, the new settlers take different approaches to survival (and possibly victory) over the native tribe. Meanwhile, Hayes Ellison, an abrasive horse trader, crosses paths with Marigold, a sex-worker who is desperately trying to escape from her troubled and violent past. These converging tales showcase the chaos and unpredictability of frontier life, providing a fascinating window into a forgotten world intertwined with authentic historical narratives regarding the ethics of American historical expansion.
