On the day lawman Will Kane is due to turn in his badge and leave town with his new bride, he hears that an outlaw he put behind bars some years ago is coming to town on the noon train to exact his revenge. Abandoned by the townsfolk he had selflessly protected in the past, the film edges towards the fateful hour in real time as Will must face his nemesis alone in this classic western. Controversial at the time for the way in which it broke genre conventions, particularly around notions of 'good' and 'bad' guys, the film remains a high watermark of its genre, with pertinent things to say around notions of citizenship.
One of the best-loved westerns of all time, about a farmer whose livelihood is threatened by a local cattle baron who is after his land.
