Nine-year-old Jo is an imaginative Kenyan girl, with posters of superhero movies and martial arts fighters adorning her bedroom wall, hoping to one day become a hero herself. On a visit to the doctors she is diagnosed with a terminal illness, leaving her family heartbroken and unsure on how to tell her. Her caring older sister Mwix comes up with a way to make the best out of the difficult situation, gathering the entire village to create scenarios in which Jo can be the superhero that saves the day. Although it’s a devastating story, the film celebrates the power of escapism and creativity, exploring collective filmmaking along the way, and with an inspiring debut performance from the young Stycie Waweru.
terminal illness theme, scene of sexual harassment, mild sex references
