Eric Lomax is one of many British soldiers caught by Japanese forces and imprisoned in a labour camp during World War Two. Forced to help their enemies with the construction of the Burma Railway, they are tortured by their captors should they refuse to cooperate. Years later, Eric is still haunted by his ordeal when an opportunity arises for him to track down and confront his nemesis, Nagase. With vengeance in mind, he makes the traumatic journey into his past, knowing he must live with the consequences of his actions. This adaptation of Eric Lomax’s autobiography highlights the lasting psychological damage of war.
A classic war film and a study of obsession and pride, this is the tale of British and US prisoners-of-war forced to build a bridge by their captors.
