Synopsis

It's 1692 and in Salem, Massachusetts, a group of young girls are found performing nocturnal rituals in the woods. Before long, accusations of Satanism and sorcery spread like wildfire throughout the Puritan community and a very public witch-hunt gets under way. At the centre is Abigail, infatuated with her ex-lover and seeking revenge against his wife. Adapted by Arthur Miller from his own play, originally written as a parable of the McCarthy era, this story of social hysteria and political scaremongering remains as potent as ever.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
