Synopsis

George Clooney directed, co-wrote and starred in this fascinating drama about the media and the dangers of political witch-hunts. In 1950s America, Senator Joseph McCarthy was unjustly persecuting people (including many within the film industry) who he believed were Communists. The film is based on the true story of the CBS news team who, led by the respected presenter Edward R Murrow, took on McCarthy and attempted to show the people of America what was really going on. Shot in monochrome, this is a riveting, intelligent and thought-provoking drama.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
