Synopsis

Spectacular epic about the legendary queen of ancient Egypt. This was the most ambitious and most expensive attempt to show the splendour and excesses of the Egyptian and Roman empires. In it, Cleopatra's personal involvement with the Romans Caesar and Mark Antony first helps and then damages her schemes to keep Egypt as something more than just a province of the new Italian power. A perfect example of how big films looked when they really did have "a cast of thousands".

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
