Synopsis

Historical epics don't come much more epic than this, the life story of the ancient King of Macedon who, in in the fourth century BC, united the cities of Greece and then conquered the legendary Persian Empire. Although the movie is about one of history's greatest warriors and there are plenty of lavishly-staged battle scenes, it also deals with who the man behind the sword was, and the kind of brutal but honour-obsessed world in which he lived.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
