Following the screening of the film, Matthew Wells, producer of Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger will speak about his experiences making this film. Wells is a documentary director and producer, based in Bristol. His work has premiered at Berlin, Venice and Sundance film festivals, and played theatrically in cinemas around the world. He's made work with Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., BFI, Netflix, BBC and Channel 4's Random Acts. Before producing Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival 2024, he directed FRANK CAPRA: MR AMERICA for Sony Pictures, which launched at the Venice Biennale in 2023.

In this documentary, Martin Scorsese presents and narrates the careers of iconic British filmmaking duo, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Both men were born in the early years of the 20th century: Powell in Kent, England and Pressburger in modern-day Hungary before leaving mainland Europe during Nazi reign in 1935 where he teamed up with Michael Powell just a few years later to form their illustrious partnership. Over the next decade they would go on to make some of the all-time great films, including The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), A Matter of Life and Death (1946), Black Narcissus (1947) and The Red Shoes (1948). These films and others are explored in detail by Scorsese as he examines what makes them so memorable and how they have influenced other filmmakers, including himself, over the decades since. With perceptive insight and analysis from one of modern cinema's finest filmmakers combined with archive footage and extended clips from their movies, this documentary is a must for students of film.
