It is a common misconception that careers in the screen industries are just for creatives. In reality, skills and knowledge developed through studying STEM and humanities subjects are equally valuable.Connecting the curriculum to careers can enthuse disengaged students, encourage take-up of a subject, and strengthen a careers programme.
About the course
Aimed at educators and careers professionals supporting 11-18 year olds, this course will help you to make unexpected connections between school subjects and job roles in film, TV, animation, VFX and games. We’ll explore hidden roles and skills with applications that extend across and beyond the screen industries, and take you on a journey through a games studio in Northern Ireland to see how they have put some of those subjects into practice.
You’ll come away armed with guides, a plug-and-play quiz, video content for use with students and posters to display in your learning environment.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
Understand the benefits of connecting curriculum learning to careers
Explain where curriculum knowledge and relevant skills are used within the screen industries
Recognise the breadth of opportunities in the screen industries.
Meeting careers benchmarks and standards
England, Gatsby Benchmark 4: linking curriculum learning to careers
Scotland, DYW Career Education Standard
