This course is part of Teaching Literacy Through Film, a series of short learning experiences focusing on specific areas of literacy.

Launch into Learning with Film provides an essential overview to using film to teach literacy.

This free short course will introduce Into Film’s track record of success in schools across the UK and explore the simple strategies that have been honed over years of research with partners including Bradford Media Literacy, BFI and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

You’ll explore resources to scaffold learning, add challenge and evaluate progress and consider how the benefits of learning with film can enrich your school and your own professional development.

Along the way, you’ll be able to try out activities and share your experiences with fellow educators. You’ll also get access to curriculum-linked resources and assessment tools to support and engage your learners in the classroom.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand how film can develop and embed pupils’ literacy skills
  • Break film down into smaller topics to support analysis
  • Plan schemes of work incorporating activities with film
  • Develop a school-wide vision for the use of film.
