What does saving the world mean to you? Environmental issues may immediately spring to mind: from the devastating impact of single-use plastic we've heard about this year, through to the unpredictable weather patterns we've all experienced. Current and former politicians around the globe are doing their best to save the world we live in today, but some filmmakers have looked to the future, considering the dystopian ways of life or environmental disasters that we could be headed towards if we don't try to effect change on either a grand or local level. On a more fantastical level, in their various cinematic universes, the superheroes we know and love continue to come to the rescue of world from a myriad of threats.

This resource is made up of a Powerpoint presentation with activities and teacher's notes designed to enhance your experience of visiting the festival and can be used before or after viewing a film that is part of the Saving the World: Eco-warriors, Superheroes & Revolutionaries strand. You can cherry-pick the activities in this resource and use the ‘extend' or ‘simplify' suggestions for learners of different ages and stages.

There is an accompanying Film Literacy Activities pack available to download which contains worksheets referred to in the Powerpoint presentation.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"As an alternative provision for learners who are not in mainstream school we use your resources in a slightly different way as they generally find it hard to watch a full length film. They are, however fantastic. "
