We're thrilled to announce that youth-made short Street Meets Soil premiered at HOME, Manchester today as part of this year's Into Film Spring Screenings programme. The short film was created by four students from Wellington School, in Manchester, whose storyboard won our Time to Inspire Storyboard competition, delivered in partnership with world-renowned Swiss watchmaker, Swatch.
Part of our Every Child a Filmmaker initiative, this educational and exciting competition invited young people aged 13-19 to create a storyboard themed around what inspires them - something that is unique to each young person - to develop their creative skills and imaginations. The aim was to showcase the positive impact young filmmakers can have by using their films to inspire future generations to aspire, be empowered, and be the changemakers of tomorrow. Storyboards visualise key events in a story, depicting scenes and sequences in chronological order, and allowing for more context and information about each frame. They are a vital part of the filmmaking process.
In September 2025, shortlisted entries were invited to attend a storyboard workshop to develop their initial ideas at the Netflix office in London. After pitching, the winning storyboard was selected to advance into film development by a special panel at the end of the workshop day. Matilda, Lottie, Lily and Emaan have since had the exciting opportunity to work with Into Film and a professional production company to turn their winning storyboard into a final film.
Street Meets Soil tells the story of Peter, who, after the death of his wife, is left to tend the garden they shared. A chance meeting with a group of teenagers offers unexpected support in a story of intergenerational kindness.
The film will now be screened over 2,000 times in cinemas across the UK as part of the Into Film Spring Screenings and will be showcased on the Into Film YouTube Shorts channel, one of the largest collections of youth-made short films (suitable for ages 13+) in the UK, and on the Into Film website as part of an Into Film+ playlist, for schools to enjoy for years to come.
Working on this film was an incredibly rewarding experience for me. Throughout the process, I felt supported by everyone involved, which helped build my confidence and also allowed us to make the film more personal and collaborative!
The experience was quite insightful, as it taught me a lot about the different roles within the film industry and how each role never goes unseen. Being part of the production also helped me appreciate how creative industries work behind the scenes, which is inspiring!
My time working with Into Film has been thoroughly enjoyable and really helped me gain more insight into the film industry. Working with professionals allowed me to learn valuable information about aspects such as the different jobs available to me, how a real film set looks like, working to a strict schedule and how to adapt to problems like weather conditions. I got to spend some time with many of the professionals, learning what they do in their jobs and gaining some hands-on experience. This included Sound, Art Directing, Editing, Focusing and more. I truly believe I was able to enhance my confidence a lot more around new people.
I was able to express my creativity and imagination consistently throughout the project, bringing new ideas to strengthen the story. The kindness and patience of everybody involved made the event less intimidating, being able to have delightful chats and tell amusing stories. This experience has confirmed my passion for the film business, making me realise a deeper admiration for production. Thank you Into film for the unforgettable memories.
I had such an enjoyable experience throughout the production process of Street Meets Soil. I felt so included in during pre-production with everyone on the team guiding us and wanting to help us bring our vision to life. Filming was such a valuable experience with everyone encouraging us to do our best and try new things while teaching us about so many roles in the film industry and making it feel like an achievable career instead of an impossible path as it is often made out to be.
I have really enjoyed working on this project with Into Film, as it's been great to have the opportunity to grow such a small idea from a rough storyboard to a full production! I've especially enjoyed being able to work with industry professionals, as I've made my own amateur short films before, but it's been such a new and valuable experience to see how the pre-production process and planning work on a professional film, as well as all of the roles on the film set itself!
I loved being able to talk to the crew on set about their personal experiences in film, as it's been inspiring for me to continue pursuing film at university and one day go into directing.
Seeing the whole thing come together as we initially imagined by inputting throughout the editing process has been so rewarding, and I'm very thankful for all of the help we've received from everyone who's been involved.
