On behalf of Into Film, we would like to express our condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
From her coronation in 1953, HM Queen Elizabeth II went on to become the longest-serving monarch in British history, witnessing seismic changes to society both at home and around the world. Her service to her country never wavered, and her sense of duty was readily apparent throughout her long reign.
For the majority of us, this is the first time we will have ever had to process the passing of a ruling British monarch. As people across the United Kingdom react and mourn in their own way, it's important to support young people through this monumental change to our society.
HM Queen Elizabeth II: A Life on Screen is a new resource that explores the reign of Elizabeth II using archive footage and her many depictions in film as a lens through which to examine her extraordinary life. Touching on curriculum subjects including English, history and citizenship, the resource will help young people aged 7-16 contextualise the Queen's reign, whilst also exploring the personal and professional responsibilities that she had to navigate.
Queen Elizabeth II has been depicted on film over 100 times, and this resource uses film to chart her remarkable life, including The King's Speech, The BFG, and of course, The Queen. The resource also includes archive footage of the Queen's coronation in 1953, offering learners an opportunity to explore what life was like when her reign began and an indication of how far things have come in the subsequent 70 years. This adaptable resource can be used in the classroom, either broken down into easily digestible chunks or delivered as a whole, and can also be adapted to support a wider school assembly.
We hope this resource will help to contextualise and celebrate the life of HM Queen Elizabeth II, teaching young people about one of the key figures of modern British history and offering them a chance to explore their thoughts and feelings about her passing.
