William Shakespeare's comic play of romantic misunderstandings is here given an inspired 1930s musical makeover by director Kenneth Branagh. The playwright's clever plot concerns the King of Navarre and his three friends who vow to ignore women for three years (it's for the sake of their education). Their discipline is predictably yet wittily tested when the Princess of France and her three stunning companions visit. The men's entertaining efforts to look disinterested don't fool anyone!
Shakespeare's classic comedy is transplanted to 19th century Japan with samurai swords and stunning scenery.
