Shakespeare goes East in this sprightly version of the classic comedy directed by Kenneth Branagh, who transplants the action to a 19th-century Japan of samurai swords and stunning scenery. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Rosalind, daughter of the exiled Duke Senior, who has fallen in love with courtier Orlando. After she is also banished from court on pain of death, Rosalind dresses as a man and seeks refuge in Arden, a strange and magical forest. Chancing across Orlando while she is in disguise, Rosalind schemes to test his affection.
This Japanese epic following the adventures of a band of samurai is one of cinema's most influential films.
