No-one ever said that life as a superhero was easy - and in this dazzling blockbuster, Batman faces his toughest task ever as he faces up to his arch-enemy, the Joker. At the start of the story, the criminals of Gotham are determined to get rid of the mysterious figure who has almost ended crime in the city, and agree to let the insane and just-as mysterious Joker carry out the job for them - unleashing mayhem in every direction. Christian Bale is great as the troubled Bruce Wayne, still leading a double life as Batman, but the movie really belongs to the late Heath Ledger - who gives a truly amazing performance as the fiendish Joker.
This film has a couple of uses of moderate bad language and contains strong fantasy violence and sustained threat.
