Synopsis

A young boy's desire to become England's next national cricketing hero in the 1950s is at the heart of this excellent British drama. The boy in question is David - an eleven year old from a Jewish family who fled the rise of the Nazis in Germany before the Second World War. But David lacks the skill necessary to make his dreams come true, and so seeks the advice of his next door neighbours, the Samuels - a cricket-mad family from Jamaica who have themselves just arrived in England. With romance and prejudice both making their presences felt, this London-set film has an important message and a great story as well.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
