Some people might expect movies set in the heart of America's inner cities to be filled with crime and gang violence - but Killer of Sheep is a very different kind of film. With a loose structure that unfolds more like a series of unconnected episodes than a conventional story, it follows the daily routine of Stan - a husband and father who's forced to work incredibly long hours at his job in a slaughterhouse, and who tries to relax when he finally gets home. Bearing witness to the difficulties of providing for a family and keeping out of trouble in poverty-stricken Watts, a suburb of LA, this film is an important social document as well as a beautiful and moving piece of filmmaking.
This film has a few uses of strong bad language including racial insults, and depicts realistic animal slaughter.
