An adaptation of an award-winning play, this moving film follows the fortunes of a struggling African-American family in 1960s Chicago. Squeezed into a tiny apartment with the rest of his family, the young and ambitious son feels imprisoned as he dreams of a better life. But when the family inherits a surprise windfall, they encounter a new problem: all of them has a different purpose they feel the money should be used for. So how do they make the most of their money without losing what holds them together?
