Walter Craig is an architect who has been invited to the home of Elliot Foley at his country cottage in Kent to carry out renovations. However, when he arrives, Walter soon recognises Foley and his other guests from a recurring dream he’s been having. Despite appearing to have no prior knowledge of each individual, Walter is able to predict events that occur within the house before they unfold. He warns the others that something terrible is going to happen later, though he isn’t sure what, but psychologist Dr. van Straaten remains particularly sceptical and tries to explain the phenomenon away. The other guests are more receptive to Walter’s story, however, having each experienced unexplained, strange events of their own, which they each recite one by one. ‘Dead of Night’ is a comedy horror anthology which features early British cinema representation of horror tropes such as ghostly figures and a ventriloquist’s sinister dummy come to life.
