Synopsis

The unforgettable Baraka is not a fictional film - but neither is it a documentary in the way that we usually think of the term. Instead, it's a film made up of images of extraordinary moments from around the world. Covering the variety of life on earth from daily religious observances, through to the extreme contrasts of the sublimely beautiful (awe-inspiring snow-capped mountains) alongside images of the very grim (people in extreme poverty scrabbling through rubbish heaps). Along the way, this mass of scenes and spectacles manages to say something hugely important about living on this complex planet today.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
