Synopsis

The favelas of Rio in Brazil are hard and unforgiving places - shantytowns from where the poor residents can see the skyscrapers of the distant city even as they live in hopeless squalor. But within this unforgiving environment, Anderson Sa is a ray of hope - a musician, rapper and activist who brings joy and hope to the slums with "Afro Reggae," a wild and infectious favela-born blend of hip-hop, reggae and Afro-Brazilian beats. The popularity of Afro Reggae has, in turn, given rise to programmes helping kids train as musicians as well as learning skills which are valuable both to them individually and to their community.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
