A colony of ants, led by the elderly Queen and her daughter Princess Atta, live on a small hill known as Ant Island. Every summer they are forced to give food to a gang of bullying grasshoppers who are commanded by their leader, the vicious Hopper. When a clumsy ant named Flik accidentally destroys the food offering, Hopper demands that the ants provide twice as much food to make up for it. Flik suggests to his colony that they should track down bigger bugs to help them fight the grasshoppers, and so Princess Atta sends him off on his quest, not expecting him to return. Flik manages to recruit a troupe of circus bugs, mistakenly believing them to be warriors, while they in turn think that Flik’s a talent agent. When they all discover what’s really going on during a welcome ceremony upon Flik’s return to Ant Island, they must continue pretending that all is well and come up with a clever plan to defeat Hopper and his fellow grasshoppers. ‘A Bug’s Life’ champions outsiders while also exploring topics such as anti-bullying and community.
