Synopsis

Edward Lear’s 1871 nonsense poem tells the tale of a courtship between an owl and a cat out at sea on a sailing boat. Their provisions for this journey include some honey, plenty of money and a guitar, with which the owl serenades the pussycat, before they arrive on a faraway island to get married. This elegant 1950s animated adaptation sets the poem to a playful tune and infuses it with vibrant block colours. Made by the pioneering British animation studio that went on to create the celebrated feature length adaptation of Animal Farm, Halas & Batchelor, The Owl and the Pussycat brings to life the beloved staple of children's literature.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
