It’s the 1930s in rural Mississippi. Twin brothers “Smoke” and “Stack” Moore return to their hometown after a spell in Chicago working for the mafia. They plan to turn over a new leaf by buying an old sawmill and turning it into a juke joint. As dusk falls, the air is fraught with tension: former lovers stir up old wounds, the twins’ young cousin Sammie disobeys his preacher father by agreeing to play guitar at that night’s grand opening, and the threat of the Ku Klux Klan looms over the festivities. But an even greater danger lurks in the darkness waiting to be let in, as African American spirituality, transcendental blues music and ancient supernatural evil draw together in this genre-twisting thriller. Sinners is highly critically acclaimed and explores themes including vampires, historical periods, cultural assimilation and racial oppression.
