In this American remake of a 2015 Swedish film, we join a man named Otto at a low point in his life. Recently widowed and burdened with grief as he misses his wife, Sonya, Otto becomes reclusive and is pushed into retirement at the steel plant where he has worked for most of his life. With his world seemingly coming to a dead-end, Otto takes the drastic decision to end his own life but is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of some new neighbours. Husband and wife Tommy and Marisol, along with their two daughters Abby and Luna, are insistent on getting to know their new neighbour Otto and they very slowly begin to chip away at his grumpy nature, reminding him of all life has to offer but, more importantly, that his wife Sonya taught him about love, hope and delicious baked goods. A life-affirming drama with a healthy dose of dark comedy, this is a film which unapologetically explores the grieving process in a thought provoking way.
