1993, Carmarthen, West Wales: Liz Evans is a hairdresser and a mother of three who runs the local youth opera out of the community’s Lyric Theatre. The town’s mayor, Tom, who had an unrequited crush on Liz during their school days, plans to demolish the theatre and turn it into a shopping centre. Liz decides to fight back and, with the help of her old drama teacher, a fellow hairdresser, and her family, she mounts a campaign to save the cinema. Their ambitious idea is to somehow contact world-famous director Steven Spielberg and request his permission to screen a premiere of the not-yet-released ‘Jurassic Park’ in order to drum up media interest for their campaign. A hugely likeable and entertaining ode to the magic of the cinema and why it remains an important part of our communities.
