Synopsis

During a balmy night in June 2017, schoolgirl Luana is sleeping peacefully in her family’s flat in a tower block in West London. But she will soon be woken by her panicking dad and spend the next few hours in a state of desperation as flames and smoke engulf the tall building, trapping them inside. Now a teenager, Luana and other survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire recount the night’s events in this revealing documentary, piecing together how the fire grew out of control, blindsiding even the firefighters, and claiming the lives of 72 people. It is a tragedy that could have been preventable. Weaving through the witnesses’ accounts is another narrative, related by special reporters and engineering experts, which slowly paints a picture of systematic failure, greed, and shocking incompetence. A rousing film about a landmark moment in recent British history, presenting topics such as legislation, health and safety, and socioeconomics in an engaging and accessible manner.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
