Shola, known as Rocks to her friends, lives in a London council flat with her single mother and cheeky younger brother Emmanuel, barely scraping by. After spending the day with her close friends, she returns home to find her life completely changed – her mother has left the home, abandoning Rocks and Emmanuel and leaving them to fend for themselves. Although her best friend Sumaya does everything she can to help Rocks, their two very different family lives may prove too difficult for their friendship to overcome. Despite this sudden and desperate situation, 'Rocks' is a charming and high energy film, made with entirely unprofessional actors, that celebrates youth, optimism, diversity and friendship, following a young girl’s quest for survival whilst in the throes of adolescence.
