Dr. Faraday, the son of a housemaid, works as a country doctor in 1948. During the long hot summer, he is called to examine a patient at Hundreds Hall – where his mother once worked – a rural mansion owned and lived in by the Ayres family, made up of adult siblings Caroline and Roderick, and their mother. Roderick is physically and mentally scarred from his experiences as a pilot in World War Two, and is the first to suggest to Dr. Faraday that ghostly occurrences are at play within the rural estate. Though the doctor is initially dismissive, events begin to escalate as he visits more regularly, with the memory of the siblings’ sister Susan – who died as a child – haunting them all in more ways than one. ‘The Little Stranger’ is a gothic horror adapted from Sarah Waters’ 2009 novel of the same name.
Moderate threat, bloody images, infrequent strong language.
