This documentary explores revered rock band X Japan who, although not a mainstream name in the UK, are a massive success in their homeland. The film delves into the history of the group, from their eccentric style to the full-throttle performances, as well as their passionate and devoted fan base. The documentary gives insight into the physical pain which band leader Yoshiki plays through as well as prevalent mental health issues in its other members. It reveals the numerous fallouts within the group, and the breakup of the band itself, with the modern narrative looking at the days leading up to a huge reunion gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden. We Are X is a documentary which engages and inspires, celebrating difference, dedication and achievement.
