Synopsis

Adapted from his wife Coco’s graphic novel, this sweet and spirited comic indie from Swedish director Lukas Moodysson sees three 13-year-old rebels start a punk band. Bobo and her Mohawk-haired best friend Klara have no musical training or instruments, but that’s not stopping them in their determination to form a music group – especially after they enlist their straight-laced, guitar-playing schoolmate Hedwig to complete the line-up, and launch into penning songs such as Hate The Sport, an attack on their school’s PE policy. Tender affection for these characters injects warmth into the wintry locations of 1980s Stockholm in this joyous celebration of youth, friendship and growing up different.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
