Katherine has been forced into a loveless arranged marriage, parceled off with a worthless plot of land, to the cold and frequently absent Alexander. Instructed by her strict father-in-law to keep to the house and study the bible during these periods, Katherine finds herself bored senseless. Eventually daring to explore the grounds, sparks fly between her and Sebastian, a boisterous farmhand, and before long she embarks on a passionate affair. When rumours begin to spread of their activities however, Katherine is forced to act decisively to maintain her social position. Adapted from a 19th century Russian novella (and nothing to do with Shakespeare), this is an engrossing, claustrophobic and provocative drama about illicit love.
Sharp, comedic adaptation of Jane Austen novella Lady Susan.
