Synopsis

12-year-old Mohammed determinedly takes to the streets of Irbid in Jordan, shining shoes every day so he can take care of his family, who have moved there as refugees after the uprising in Syria. Separated from his father and brothers but sharing in their revolutionary passion, Mohammed zealously sings the chants of protest songs, entertaining his clients as he polishes their shoes. Mohammed’s infectiously energetic spirit offers a hopeful look towards the future yet reminds us of the struggle and violence he has witnessed and the burden of responsibility he shoulders at such a young age.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
