This film covers two days in the life of Saul Auslander, a Hungarian prisoner forced to burn the corpses from the gas chambers in Auschwitz. Saul finds a body which he believes is that of his son, and attempts to salvage the remains in order to find a rabbi who will give him a proper Jewish burial. As the rest of the Sonderkommano – the name given to the work unit made up of Nazi death camp prisoners – plots a rebellion against the guards, Saul focuses on this task in an attempt to atone for the errors of his past.
Harrowing account of the Jewish concentration camp prisoners forced to counterfeit money for the Nazis, and the horrors of the inmates around them.
