This stylish black and white biopic focuses on a brief moment in the life and career of brilliant Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. In the early 1950s, penniless and at odds with his wife, Thomas arrives in America for a lucrative tour of readings organised by poetry professor and fan John Brinnin. Despite his best efforts, Brinnin soon finds himself unable to contain his hero’s heavy drinking and, with the tour in jeopardy, the pair retreat to an isolated cabin to sober up. Over the course of this snapshot of Thomas' life, the film skilfully demonstrates the power of his poetry, his skill as an orator, as well as his lifelong struggle with alcoholism.
Adapted from Dylan Thomas’ seminal radio play, a number of residents within a fictional Welsh community share stories and poems of their lives.
