Successful sports stars often become role models. For years, cyclist Armstrong was a hero to millions of fans. His remarkable story of recovery from life-threatening cancer to become a seven-time Tour de France champion was inspirational, and his ‘Livestrong’ wristbands became a popular accessory around the world. Years later, despite insisting he was innocent throughout his trial, it was found that he’d been using illegal, performance-enhancing substances, and he was stripped of his titles. This documentary, featuring interviews with Armstrong both before and after he confessed, explains why and how such a lie was created and maintained for so long.
