Set in Japan, during preparations for the 1964 Olympic Games, From Up on Poppy Hill continues Studio Ghibli's tradition of beautifully animated, compelling stories. Umi is a teenager, living with her grandmother on the picturesque Poppy Hill. She occupies herself watching the boats and raising flags, always half-hoping to see her father, who died during the Korean War. Meanwhile, her friend Shun is working to prevent the demolition of a treasured clubhouse. As romance blossoms between Umi and Shun, a shocking revelation threatens their friendship.
Possibly the greatest war film ever made, this anime is the deeply moving tale of a boy and his sister fighting to survive in World War II Japan.
